Films, Plate-Ready Films, and
Color Separations are interchangeable terms. They all refer to
the negatives the printer has to have in order to print your CD Inserts.
They are similar to the negatives you get
with your photos after having them developed, except that Plate-Ready
Films are actual size images, not miniature images like your photo negs.
How do you get Plate-Ready
Films? By preparing Film-Ready Design Files.
FILM-READY
DESIGN FILES
First, someone (preferably
Audio Sphere or another professional design service) takes your photos,
and/or artwork, and/or logo, and scans them into the computer.
The images are cropped and arranged, and all the words, or text, is
typeset (in, on top of, or around the images). Any special
effects, color, borders, etc. that you'd like to use are applied.
This is all done within specific dimensions, or a template file.
When the design is
completed, the files are written to a computer disk or CDR, and taken to
a Pre-Press Service Bureau for output as film negatives (inserts) and
positives (discface). |
