Get a
retail-ready CD barcode, DVD barcode or cassette barcode
for your project when you use Audio Sphere for CD
duplication, CD replication, cassette duplication, and
DVD manufacturing. We’ll assign a unique
barcode number to your title and generate the actual
graphic, all free of charge. This will save you
the time and expense of registering with the Uniform
Code Council, referred to as the UCC (http://www.uc-council.org/).
The minimum membership tier the UCC offers is $750,
plus $150 per year renewal fee. More and more stores
do require a barcode on the packaging before they’ll
add a new title to their inventory. Some
Distributors, however, use their own barcode so if
you’re in line for a distribution deal, it’s best to
investigate their requirement in this regard.
The Benefits of A Retail-Ready
Barcode
Whether you register directly with the UCC or use
the free barcode number assignment from Audio Sphere,
your product will be retail-ready: music stores
will be able to scan your CD, DVD or Cassette at their
registers and companies like SoundScan, who track
sales and report to various publications, including
Billboard, will be able to (if you hire them) track your
title's sales – retail or 3rd Party Verified.
Should I Register Directly With
the UCC?
A barcode is a barcode is a barcode, whether you
register with the UCC or use an Audio Sphere-generated
barcode. Keep in mind that each store assigns
value to your barcode (information is not inherent
within the barcode graphic itself). They do not
see "Audio Sphere" when they scan the barcode;
the only place that information exists is on file at the
UCC.
If I
Use Audio Sphere’s Barcode, Who Owns the Barcode?
Audio Sphere is the company
registered with the UCC per the first 6 digits of every
Audio Sphere barcode. Your CD, DVD, or cassette
title will be associated with that barcode number
sequence forever – never assigned to anyone else,
but can only be used for that title. If you sign up with
SoundScan (for example) to track your sales, their
application will ask you to list the the ‘parent
company’ (the company registered with the UCC) and the
answer would be Audio Sphere. However, your CD,
DVD, or cassette could go platinum and Audio Sphere
would have no claim on that success.
Okay I Do Want an Audio Sphere
Barcode! What Now?
If Audio Sphere is producing your CDs, DVDs, or
cassettes, we will generate and place the barcode
graphic into your file that we are designing for you, or
into a design file that you submit to us (be sure to
create a white box, 1.25 x .5, so we know where you want
it placed). Again, this service is provided at no
charge to you.
If Audio Sphere is not producing your CDs, DVDs, or
cassettes, we will provide you with a barcode for
only $250 (a savings of $500 from what the UCC
charges to register at the minimum membership tier).
We will supply you with either adhesive-backed labels or
an .eps file. If you would like both, add $50. Prices
include shipping. Payment must be in place
before we will issue barcode. We accept Cashier's
Checks, Money Orders, Master Card or Visa.
Need
Alternatives to Barcodes on The Traycard Insert?
Spine Labels are the
answer: You can have a bar code label generated and
applied to the spine of your jewel case, underneath the
polywrap. Again, the barcode number assignment is
free, but the generation and application of the spine
label is $.07 per CD.
Didn’t Need Barcodes Then, But Need Them Now?
Let's say that
you used Audio Sphere to produce your CDs, DVDs or
cassettes and you didn’t need a barcode then, but the
situation has changed. For just $75, Audio Sphere will
send you 1,000 peel-off, adhesive barcode labels for
application onto your CDs. This applies to Audio
Sphere-produced CD, DVD, or cassette titles only.
